Hitech News – First Edition – July 2006

Due to the increased need to keep up with what is happening in terms of current problems, new technologies and services, our customers have asked us to put together a monthly newsletter. This is the very first issue, and through time, it will provide a great platform to notify our clients of new and upcoming products and services. Your feedback is most welcome, and we look forward to receiving your opinions and questions.

New Website – New CMS Login

Hitech Support is launching a new website portal today including the New CMS Login, from where you can log support calls, review and retrieve your account information, and find the latest about new solutions and services. Visit the website. If you don’t have a login for CMS, then ask us for more details.

New Products Solutions and Technologies

MDaemon v9 released with teething problems

Alt-N’s new release of their award-winning MDaemon brings serious performance improvements, fixes, and increased add-on facilities. The new release is under extensive testing in our labs, so please don’t install it before talking to us as we found a few minor issues in it. We will contact you for updates once the new version is stable and reliable. Some of the improvements include content filter and anti-virus processing, and the capability to process many messages simultaneously rather than one at a time sequentially as in previous versions. Ask us for more details

Backup Services

If you are unable to check the backups yourself (permanently, or temporarily, i.e., when you are on annual leave for example) then you can subscribe to our Backup Managed Services. The Backup Managed Services program sees us checking the backup daily which offers you peace of mind that this critical component is being looked after. Ask us for more details

New Security Threats

Wi-Fi drivers open laptops to hackers

According to security researchers, hackers can take control of laptops by Wi-Fi even when the user is not connected to a wireless LAN. The hack, which exploits bugs in wireless device drivers, will be demonstrated at the upcoming Black Hat USA 2006 conference. Ask us for more details

Handy Tips

Firmware Updates

Always make sure that new firmware releases are tested before they are deployed in production environment. Firmware updates are important because they contain bug fixes, security patches and quite often include functionality enhancements. New firmware releases are sometimes not stable though. Hitech Support always tests them before rolling them out at customer sites. This process is usually done as quickly as possible, because outdated firmware on the other hand, can introduce risks to your systems. Ask us for more details
